Interview with Lieutenant John C. ("Jack") Fitch, a Navy veteran, concerning his experiences as an officer aboard the destroyers USS Nicholas, LaVallette, and Benner in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Fitch discusses the Battle of Kula Gulf in June of 1943, the Battle of Kolombangara in July of 1943, the rescue of survivors of the cruiser USS Helena, various naval skirmishes off Guadalcanal, the invasion of Tarawa and Makin Islands in November of 1943, the invasions of Roi, Kwajalein, and Eniwetok, the invasion of Hollandia, the battle off Biak Island, and radar picket duty off of northern Japan in 1945. Appendix includes a photocopy of the chart "Characteristics of the World War II Destroyer" [1 leaf] and photocopies of photographs from a book(?) documenting American naval operations in the Pacific Theater [3 leaves].
